Published by Geoff R Thomson (A0.1019284). If people of today need advice on how to lose or put on weight this poem #AChangeOfAir by C.J.Dennis could very well have the answer....no guarantees though!;) Geoff Rod Thomson adds his little bit with his melody, chords and piano accompaniment. Just between you and me, great fun words here but shame about the music, in my opinion....I'd be trying one of the other songs preferably for music satisfaction. These C.J.Dennis songs would be great for teachers and their language, music, drama, history or other students. Contact: #Geoffspianosongs or GeoffRodThomson@gmail.com.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1257042 Composed by George West. Arranged by George West and edited by CHRIS MAGEE. Jazz. Score and Parts. 92 pages. Dubba C Music #850377. Published by Dubba C Music (A0.1257042). Spirit of 7 to 6 is a modal jazz tune by George West. Composed in the 1970s around the time of the American bicentennial celebration, the title also refers to meter changes between 7/4 (written as 4/4+3/4) and 6/4. Your soloists only need to know two scales to solo on this tune: C dorian minor and Ab mixolydian. Range and technical demands are moderate. After the statement of the melody, an open solo section leads to a sax soli, then a great shout chorus. If you are looking for a change of pace for your concert or assessment program, this is an excellent choice!Grade: 3+Ranges:Trumpet: C6Trombone: G4 About George West: Trombonist and educator George West (1931-2013) was founder and head of the jazz program at James Madison University for 25 years, from 1971 until his retirement in 1996. He served as bass trombonist and arranger with the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note from 1953 until 1958, and performed with the Kai Winding trombone Group from 1959 through 1960. George completed his undergraduate degree at Oberlin Conservatory, and earned his masters and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He founded the jazz programs at both schools while he was a student. George also founded the jazz program at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (Muskegon, MI) in 1971 and led that program through 2004. After his retirement from James Madison University, he relocated to Deland, Florida, and led the jazz program at Stetson University until his passing in 2013.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.893858 Composed by David Kai. Christian,Gospel,Pop. Score. 4 pages. David Kai #5986435. Published by David Kai (A0.893858). This song was written when heart transplants were fairly new and still in the news. The song depicts the healing ministry of Jesus brought into modern times. Since people like to put music into categories, the style could be roughly described as being country/bluegrass/synth-driven/gospel pop, which might make it pretty unique! The song was first recorded by the Christian rock group, Whitestone and later by the Sellwoods gospel group. Both versions can be found on Youtube. The Great Healer words and music by David Kai ©1980 I’ve had a heart transplant with a bit of a difference, it may seem rather odd No scalpel, no surgeon, no anesthetic, just between me and God And now a new life beats inside of me, it’s more than mere words can describe My heart keeps time to the rhythm of the Spirit inside Well I went fishing for the truth to life, but I opened up a can of worms False religions and philosophies, misleading me at every turn Well I soon realized that knowledge is fine, but it’s really just a place to start ‘Cause you can change your mind but it’s God that has to change your heart Chorus: Yes, he’s the great healer, in a world of pain and strife, he’s the great healer, and he can mend a broken life And though your hurts be too much to bear, he can heal your wounds with loving care And give you a new life that will never die So if you feel that you’ve lost all your reason to live, good and bad look the same And you’re walking around more dead than alive, life clotting up in your veins Just end your confusion, accept a transfusion of love from the heavenly Lord And to your surprise you’ll find that you have been restored Chorus: I’ve had a heart transplant with a bit of a difference...

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.733415 Composed by Kimberly Steele. Sacred. Score. 1 pages. Kimberly Steele #6619661. Published by Kimberly Steele (A0.733415). As the sole copyright owner of this music, I have a strange favor to ask: I beg that you ADAPT and CHANGE this piece's music to suit your needs. Obviously the words are set in place; they are in worship and service of a specific deity. The music, however, needs to be malleable. Change the rhythm. Change the key. Change the mode. Add sections. Improvise. Here's the thing: when music stays the same and is played exactly the same as it supposedly was in the past, it becomes museum music. Personally, though I've had extensive training in the subject, I can't stand museum music. No matter how pretty or perfectly-played museum music is, it will always have an air of deadness about it. So change this tune, beat it up, deconstruct it, pull it apart and put it together again, because that's what I think the gods would want us to do. In my mind, keeping the tunes alive, flexible, and vital helps us connect with the gods who gave us the ability to create music in the first place.

C Instrument - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1376331 By Heidi Savoie. By Heidi Savoie. Arranged by Heidi Savoie. Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Jazz,Singer/Songwriter. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 1 pages. Heidi Savoie #960874. Published by Heidi Savoie (A0.1376331). This is a lead sheet for any instrument for the song Almost May. Almost May - Theme and VariationsBackstory: Years ago I wrote a simple piano piece for my students. As instrumental music can fully exist outside the confines of words, it can be difficult to find the right title for something that is pure sound and possibility. I took inspiration from the time of year in which I had composed it and stamped it, “Almost May”. Like springtime in the Northern Hemisphere, “Almost May” unfolds slowly and majestically, with ever-evolving layers for the senses to discover. What to listen for: ThemeThe main theme is first presented by the piano with minimal fanfare. This part was written to be easy enough for a child, which despite being sparing of notes, delivers rich harmonic content. Every note has been carefully curated for the optimal combination of accessibility and depth. Weaving chromatically into distantly-related keys, the melody takes small steps into contrasting musical spaces. In a wordless procession, the storyline plays out, as if the theme discovers that someone very different lives next door, and they slowly become inseparable. The piano is accompanied by an airy touch of brushes against a snare drum, like the pitter patter of soft feline steps. In the low frequency range, the upright bass supports and deepens the tonal palette with its earthy underpinnings. What to listen for: Variation I The unmistakable string section arrives like a breath of warm air. Lush, warm and reassuring like sunshine on your cheeks, the string parts begin with long tones. This broadness and stability will evolve into more layers of complexity throughout the section. While the role of the string section is background accompaniment, it undergoes textural changes which allow for some layers to briefly rise to the forefront as melody. Careful listening to the string parts will reveal an oceanic churning, a motion from background to foreground with expansions and contractions along the way. Floating overtop this density is the improvised piano solo, with ascending gestures that progress in detail and density. Each instrument enters a general unfolding and growth period in the first variation. The bass and drums include more fills than before, as the ensemble tends gradually toward more grandeur. What to listen for: Variation II The final variation opens with a decadent treatment of the melody. What was initially expressed by a soloist as a childlike plea is reimagined as a two-part conversation between the piano and lead viola. The obbligato voiced in the viola is a derivation of the melody that holds the space between phrases so the listener's attention is passed seamlessly between the piano and viola part. This dialogue features commentary on the original melody in the form of ornamentation and taking surprising pathways to expected destinations. The rhythm section (bass and drums) takes more liberties in creating a verdant soundscape as the ensemble rises to a final climax. Credits: I would like to thank Cole Canaday for the nuance, imagination and depth of understanding with which he brought this piece to life. I would also like to thank Blake Hamilton and Anastace for providing invaluable audio engineering feedback.

Large Ensemble C Instrument - Digital Download SKU: A0.1017725 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Thomas Gray. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 1 pages. Thomas Edward Gray Music #6660805. Published by Thomas Edward Gray Music (A0.1017725). 'Donnybrook Fair' is a lively Irish jig that's great fun to play. It's well-known and loved and is played across the world in pubs, on stage and at Irish music sessions. It is a great jig for beginners and experts alike.History: The title of this jig refers to the fair of the same name that was held in Donnybrook, Dublin. The fair was held from the 13th century up until the 1850’s and is also a slang term for a brawl or riot. In 1204, a license was granted to the corporation of Dublin by King John of England to hold an annual eight-day fair in Donnybrook. In 1252, the duration of the fair was extended to fifteen days. Over the subsequent centuries, the terms of holding the fair continued to change until it was decided in the 18th century that the fair would be held on the 26th of August on Donnybrook Green for a full fortnight. The fair was finally ended in 1855 when ‘The Committee for the Abolition of Donnybrook Fair’ bought the licence to the fair for £3000.ISMN: 979-0-9022638-4-9Published by:Thomas Edward Gray MusicABN: 90 127 523 114E: tomedgray@outlook.comIf you have any comments or feel your copyright has been infringed, please contact us.

Tenor voice solo, SATB choir unaccompanied - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8322-E Composed by David Conte. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 15 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8322-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8322-E). UPC: 600313483226. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych” were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass” was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed” as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.” I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy” for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road” for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. “What is the Grass?” is also an adaptation of a much longer poem, one of Whitman’s deepest, and most mysterious. The poem begins as a child-like meditation on grass; as hope, as an embodiment of new life and new growth in the plant world. Then suddenly there is a somber turn with the line “And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.” Here Whitman enters an extended mediation on how grass connects life and death, informed by his experiences in the Civil War. Hope returns with the line: “They are alive and well somewhere,” leading to the mysterious final line: “And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…” Here Whitman affirms that death can be an initiation into a broader participation of existence. In the words of poet Ivan M. Granger, Whitman offers a “Zen-like riddle that doesn’t offer an answer so much as a pathway of questioning.” My musical setting follows Whitman’s exploration, first taking a child’s point of view, expressed with lilting melodies set in a lively compound meter. The entry of the tenor soloist indicates a change of mood to the serious. The first mood returns, leading to a climax on the words “And led forward life…”, set in 9-part harmony. The mood turns reverent, as the tenor soloist intones: “All goes onward and outward; nothing collapses.” The piece ends with a tone of gentle, slightly ironic questioning. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Brian Streckfus #725564. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1124793). I include two versions! The first being my arrangements with many changes, and the second version is a more blank version. That way, these arrangements are more all-inclusive for every purpose and skill level.1. Guitar Arrangement Lead Sheet Style2. Guitar Tab 3. Guitar Chord Charts and Chord Nomenclature4. Less stereotypical chords that take into consideration voice leading and making the main melody the forefront.5. Fingerings and letter names added to aid in sight-reading6. Grace notes addedWhat makes these versions great is that they work well no matter how many members. Completely solo guitar you can use the vocal melody to make the song more sophisticated and make the song more recognizable. Then, the larger the group you play in, the more you can focus on playing the background chords. The background chords a great for those who want to train their singing, as even the chord diagrams constantly emphasize the main melody.Edit: A better name for the G major chord in measure six is B minor. Though, G is ok since it is sort of implied. If you want me to make a small revision, I don't mind doing it for free just as long as it isn't time consuming. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158198). An extremely artistic and challenging composition, fit to feature on any concert, both for the general public and academic circles, Airpower! is cleverly titled to honor MSgt Alex Serwatowski, an Air Force tuba player, upon his retirement. Overall, “Airpower!” is light-hearted with a comedic but dignified feel, intended to be happy and celebratory. There are moments of a more serious nature, such as the transitions in measures 19-22 and 74-77, and a slower contemplative section (51-68) with a particularly dramatic moment in measures 55-56, where the listener wants to rise up with honor and respect. There is a healthy spectrum of emotions in this work. One remarkable feature of this composition is that it does not end in the same key in which it starts. In fact, it ends in D major, a tritone away from its opening key of A-flat major—as distantly related as two keys can be. Throughout the entire piece, the harmonic rhythm is intense, primarily exploring chromatic mediants and relative keys, wandering from A-flat to C to F to D minor and then several rapid tonicizations leading to G major, then to E minor to E major to G, E-flat, C minor, C major, A minor, tonicizations again, finally ending in D major. Although it is highly unified thematically (with essentially one theme that varies and develops, symbolically), this unique harmonic feature symbolizes the change that a person undergoes through a 23-year career. “Airpower!” is about 4’30” in duration, which is a fairly substantial single-movement work for brass quintet. The tempo never varies through the entire work, though with rhythmic augmentation and mutation the effect of tempo changes is present. The technical demands are difficult for all the players. This piece works the tuba into the melody and technical passages as much as any other player.

Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1135655 By Ruth B. By Ruth Berhe. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. Instructional,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. Chords/Lyrics. 2 pages. Brian Streckfus #735713. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1135655). This is a shortened version of the song to fit nicely on two pages (I needed a shorter version for the circumstances I'm under). The melody and lyrics are like the original as far as I can tell, but I did make changes to the harmony. Usually these changes to the harmony are to enhance the word painting, or to have it be more idiomatic to guitar. A version like this is ideal for someone who wants to play a very fancy version of the song on solo guitar, though adding vocals in should still be fairly easy. I personally sing a lot better if I can play the melody first on guitar because then I know exactly what I'm doing. Versions like these can really be as simple or as complex as you want, if you want something simple, just play the chord diagrams and sing!1. Guitar Arrangement Lead Sheet Style2. Guitar Tab 3. Chord Charts 4. Less stereotypical chords 5. Fingerings and letter names added to aid in sight-reading 6. Voice leading considerations 7. Making the music idiomatic for guitarTips:1. Notes with the stem direction going down are background harmonies that should be played quietly. This hidden meaning tends to only happen with polyphonic instruments such as piano and guitar. You'll eventually notice this anyways because there is no lyric underneath the note.1. Slurs are notated to the make the music easier and better sounding for guitar not vocals, though of course it often mimicks slurs similiar to a vocalist.2. Fmaj7(#11) is not in the original and is a key change since it includes an F and not an F#.3. Sometimes it can look like the melody does not contain a key change, but then when you anaylze the letter names of the chords, you will find that there is indeed key changes in the chords. The Beatles is a good example of a band that does this often.4. E minor and G major chords technically only need 2 or 3 notes. This is one simple but effective strategy to have less cliche chords.5. The F(#5)(#11) chord in the second to last measure could probably be just an F major chord.6. The E natural in measure 42 could be an Eb if the harmony is too avant-garde for you. Made sense to me because of word painting and I wanted a keyless and dreamy feeling for the end. 7. G/B chords are arguably nicer than a full G chord, though of course the decision is ultimately up to. It is better because the chord is imperfect, it causes the audience to not clap too soon. I also only strum the chord up to where the vocal melody is happening, that way the main melody is always in the spot light, and I find songs are easier to sing this way.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1376326 By Heidi Savoie. By Heidi Savoie. Arranged by Heidi Savoie. Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Jazz,Singer/Songwriter. Score. 1 pages. Heidi Savoie #960870. Published by Heidi Savoie (A0.1376326). This is a solo piano arrangement of Almost May, best suited for an early intermediate player.

Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 170 pages. Karen Peterson #704871. Published by Karen Peterson (A0.1101496). What makes modes different? When do you use them? How do you use them? Is this song in a mode? This book is for everyone who has heard of modes and doesn’t know what to do next. Take advantage of how harpers use the same hand position for major and minor chords: change your levers or pedals to hear the differences between Lydian, Ionian, Mixolydian, Dorian, Aeolian, and Phrygian on the same strings. * Learn the two or three essential chords at the foundation of each mode. * Understand how to identify the mode or modes a piece is in. * Experiment with exercises for improvising, composing, and arranging in each mode. * Compare 40 color-coded pairs of scores in contrasting modes. * Get lead sheets for 29 modal pieces from over a dozen nations. * Add your own harmonies to 15 additional melodies. * Find key signatures, scales, and chords for all the modes on a fully levered harp tuned in flats. * Use simple graphics to visualize the music theory behind the modes. * Practice segueing between modes and meters. This book contains practical information for all musicians and is written especially for harpers. The scores are in keys from two sharps to three flats. They fall within the range of a 22-string harp starting with the lowest note of G below middle C. 161 pages. This phenomenon may only last a short time twice a day, but it it worthwhile to see. To be on the mountaintop when this occurs is like living in a painting. This song captures the artistry and sensations of living in these moments. A lone lyrical melody begins the work, adding supporting harmonies afterward. The melody evolves into a folk-like structure that returns to its ominous original. The driving winds and cold weather are further illustrated in the transition leading to recapitulations of the previous sections. With quiet respite the work effortlessly floats away, seeemingly into the air.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.828227 Composed by John Hatton. Arranged by Paul Thurmond. 20th Century,Baroque,Christian,Sacred. Score. 7 pages. Paul Thurmond #4968929. Published by Paul Thurmond (A0.828227). Tune: DUKE STREETUse: Prelude, PostludeOne Sunday my church was singing Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun as the opening hymn. It’s our tradition that the last stanza of a hymn is sung in unison, so that I as the organist can change the harmonization and keep things interesting. Sometimes I know ahead of time what I’m going to do, and sometimes I make it up on the spot.On this particular morning I planned on being spontaneous. (Can spontaneity be planned?) When we got to the final stanza, I threw on the 16′ pedal reed and went to town.I don’t know if this is the case for all musicians, but while I’m playing my brain is working on several different levels. Most of these are involved in actually playing the music, but there’s also a running commentary on how things are going. This commentary is usually really boring: It’s going okay. It’s going okay. It’s going okay. Sometimes the messages are more interesting: Uh-oh. She just dropped her mute. I missed that chord; remember to circle it when we’re done. My page turner appears to be on fire. So: We’re in the final stanza of Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun. Big, majestic hymn. Over a hundred congregants and choir members are enthusiastically singing in unison. I’m leading them from the organ with an improvised accompaniment that involves all of my limbs. It’s fair to say that I was concentrating hard.Suddenly the commentary part of my brain breaks in: Dude, your feet are totally playing Canon in D. Cool!Canon in D is the most famous work of Johann Pachelbel, a German composer who preceded Bach by a few decades. It’s overused at weddings, but it’s actually a really good piece of music. The original is for three violins and a basso continuo part, which would usually have been played by harpsichord and cello. In this case, the basso continuo plays the same eight measures again and again throughout the piece. This technique of repetition is called a ground bass. While that’s going on, the violins play several different themes on top of it.When I was improvising that Sunday, my feet had accidentally wandered into that ground bass part, which happened to fit nicely with the melody we were singing. During the sermon (sorry Pastor!) I started going through the violin themes in my head, seeing if any of them could also match up with the hymn tune. Some of them worked and some didn’t. I decided to write a sort of theme and variations, where the hymn tune appears in various forms. Sometimes it’s played along with one of the violin themes, and sometimes a violin theme serves as an interlude on its own. And except for one passage, the left hand is always playing some version of the basso continuo theme. I also changed the meter from 4/4 to 3/4 to make it more interesting. It culminates in a climax worthy of a king. I hope you enjoy it.

Voice (SSAA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1240428 Composed by Anastasio Rossi. Arranged by Anastasio Rossi. A Cappella,Barbershop. Barbershop Quartet. 3 pages. Anastasio Rossi #835806. Published by Anastasio Rossi (A0.1240428). Think of the story behind this music as about a young lady who just loves the waltz, and loves to sing and dance to its lilting triple time. Her dancing partner is a dashing, ever so handsome young man, who sweeps her off her feet and takes her breath away with his charm and grace, as they float away on the wings of A Dance In Triple Time!I originally composed this piece as a little warm up ditty for my chorus, but as I worked the melody and the harmony, it grew into just a little bit more than a warm up exercise. We always enjoyed singing this little piece for our audiences. And they always enjoyed hearing it. One caveat; The lyrics go by quickly! Leads, use your best diction and pronunciation, so the story doesn't get lost. Harmony voices, keep the melody prominent, by always singing your la-las at least one dynamic notch below the melody!Choose the waltz tempo of your choice - very relaxed to very lilting in 1. Base your choice on being able to deliver the lyrics with great clarity, especially in the faster passages. Be sure to observe the accelerandos, broadening tempos, a tempos, legatos, and staccatos. They all have much to do with delivering the style of this piece, especially the off beat la-las. Some pairs are staccato, in other pairs, the first la is legato, the second la is staccato. The metronome marks more accurately describe the accelerandos and broadenings. On the repeat at 11, a slight increase in the tempo will add urgency and intensity. Keep the melody prominent as it moves to different voices, beginning at 37. Maintain the crisp staccato harmony against the legato melody, and enjoy the change to full legato for all voices.
